Community Iftar Initiative x MiCA: What We Learn When We Archive

MiCA is pleased to be joining the Community Iftar Initiative for an intimate iftar and discussion!

The Muslims in Canada Archives (MiCA) makes accessible records of and about Muslims across the country. Despite a long standing presence of Muslims on this land, our histories are oftentimes missing from Canada’s memory institutions. MiCA exists to fill these gaps; acquiring, preserving, and sharing materials relating to Muslim heritage. Join MiCA archivist Mitra Fakhrashrafi for a talk on how the archives — through words, images and material objects — can deepen our understanding of the past, present, and future of Muslim life. Together, we will trace the limitations of existing archival frameworks, consider the possibilities of participatory practices and discuss practical tools for organizing and archiving living Muslim history.
